I walked out into the night. Slight, comforting humidity cushioned me, buttering my skin. Unnatural city light bounced off one solid, lavender cloud covering the sky. It was a graveyard daylight that coated life in a surreal gray-green cast. Sometimes space pulled a hole up out of the water weighted blanket and a star winked through ~ a pristine raw diamond cutting the never ceasing neon glare of Vegas with pure eternity. Silent lightning danced playfully in clustered strokes behind the pine needles.
Something electrically enchanting and impossible to pin pulsed through summer storms. Floods rampaged over hard, cracked earth. Cars got swallowed. People stabbed and sliced by glass hidden in the muddy, rushing chaos. And yet, I can step into the cool, itchy grass with its little spears poking my ankles, eyes illuminated by an endless lavender pillow . . . and taste the rain. I swallow it.
