"I now have six friends," Colin Farrell said to Hugh Grant in an Actors on Actors interview. It was a statement intended to illustrate his personal growth past the partying days and on to more meaningful relationships. I've often made the assumption that fame equals knowing everybody and having lots of friends in high places. But even the wildly famous tailor their relationships to personal preferences and life stages. I found it beautifully endearing that a close-knit tribe of six was a thing of note in Colin's life. A marker of personal evolution.
How often we confuse fame with money, awards and red carpets. Those things are a paper-thin fraction of the work being expressed and the life being lived. We seek the shiny and when it's in our palms, we realize the funnest part was the doing.
