I remember the first day that I really missed little Vegas. Craving her smallness, the way she'd fall into me on the pillow, how she'd look at me like I was the entire world.
When the newcomer arrives, you search for all the traits of the one you came to know so well. Your favorite quirks, the shared routines and sweet rituals. And then you realize how very different this furry being is. A complete person in and of themself.
You start over, reminded that it takes time and lotsa love to form the bond you'll uniquely share with this being. The hope is, you'll architect a silent language, generate a fresh love that honors both your preferences and come to deeply nurture one another. Snuggling each other through sorrow. Playing all the way. Finding your personalities increasingly more endearing.
Seeing that it's all Love. Every bit of it.
