She settled into the corner of our wooly green retro couch, releasing a refreshed sigh. The blanket of AC was instant relaxation from the overwhelming desert heat.
"Would you like something to drink?"
"Water with lots of ice," she answered in less than a blink.
No hemming and hawing. No, "I'm fine," even though she really wanted a drink but didn't want to "put anyone out." She replied with exactly what she wanted.
My admiration was two-fold. She knew precisely what she desired. And she communicated it succinctly. No bones about it.
