These days, Empathy is a real spiritual marker to strive for. "Put yourself in their shoes." "Understand where they're coming from."
But what if Empathy doesn't exist? What if it's impossible to achieve?
Within each individual experience lives a spiraling rainbow of feelings, backlogged memories, unique perspectives, ingrained beliefs and personal opinions.
So how can one ever truly understand what someone else is going through? Do we even need to?
Or can we just do our best to meet them where they stand. See them completely. And feel a love for them that's best described as Compassion.
I can never walk in your shoes, but I can love you just the same.
